Discussion:
[KBibTeX] No returns Google Scholar after a while

Hi,

After retrieving a few citations via the Google Scholar search, I don't
get anything back. Kbibtex doesn't crash and searches, but it doesn't
find anything, even the ones it found previously.

Does anyone has an idea, how I can reset Kbibtex, so I can straight
import again from Google Scholar? I think the search results might be
stored somewhere local and that might throw the retrieved file out. It
would save a huge amount in time as I have to enter several hundred
articles. :-)

(I am running a Debian derivative)
kbibtex version 0.2.3.90; using kde 3.5.10)

ps. I have had previously similar problems on (kubuntu 9.10)

Thanks for your help.

For testing purposes, if it is a configuration problem or a software
problem, you can create a new test account on your system with a fresh
KDE configuration. Test if Google Scholar search is working there.

If it is not working with this fresh installation, Google Scholar search
(GGS) in KBibTeX is broken due to changes in Google's webpage. GGS
search is very fragile as it pretends to be a browser and parses HTML.
If there are unexpected changes, much can go wrong and the GGS module in
KBibTeX has to be updated.

If GGS is working in the fresh configuration, search for the file
kbibtexpartrc in your personal KDE configuration directory (e.g.
~/.kde/share or similar). Compare both files in your normal account and
the fresh configuration to see what the differences are.

You may want to test KBibTeX for KDE4, which is quite stable already and
I am using it for my daily work.

Bye,
Thomas

Debian squeeze will release with the KDE3 version of kbibtex (probably
in three weeks). Do you think the KDE4 version is ready for packaging to
replace the old KDE3 one in Debian's unstable branch?

Yes, I guess it is stable enough for an unstable Debian... I am already
using it for my daily work and fix problems and bugs on the fly.
More testers would be more efficient, of course :-)

Greetings,
Thomas

Great. I'm ready to package it. Which leads me to the question: When
will it be released?

That is an excellent question. ;-)
Let me see. There are a few unread mails which I should answer. Some
code is laying around and has to be cleaned up and checked in.
If I would have nothing else to do, next weekend.
I will try to aim for a release in January, but it will feel a little
bit like KDE 4.0.0 ...

Bye,
Thomas
